Lump chalk is available for cattle sheds/yard floors. It is an ideal material for a livestock situation as the porosity of the chalk allows fluids to be absorbed and neutralised. The chalk is available ‘as dug’ or in a screened grade and is suitable for compacting with a vibrating roller or tracked machines.
A harder grade of chalk can also be supplied which is less permeable and therefore suitable for track or gateway maintenance and outdoor pads. It is very resistant to frost and will not turn to a paste like other chalks do in winter conditions. Limestone is harder than chalk and available as a ‘grade to dust’ or as a ‘clean grade’ that is generally used for ménage base construction, concrete pad bases or similar.
